Our Purpose

Our Purpose Statement

Heavenly Heights Baptist Church exists for the sole purpose of honoring God!

First, we honor Him by loving Him. Mark 12:29-30, "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."

Second, we honor Him by loving others. Mark 12:31, "And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

With the Bible as our authority we honor Him by following the commission in scripture to preach the gospel, baptize those who believe and trust Christ as Saviour, and teach believers to live their lives according to the scriptures here in Jacksonville and around the world through our supported missionaries.

The Purpose of Jesus

Just as we have shared with you what the purpose of Heavenly Heights Baptist Church is, Jesus shared with us what His purpose is in Luke 19:10. "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." For Jesus to fulfill His purpose in a person’s life we must believe on Him as our Saviour.

What do I need to know to believe on or trust in Him to be my personal Saviour?

1. Know my condition.

To find the way to eternal life with God, I must admit I am lost in sin. Romans 5:12 teaches us that since Adam and Eve, the first man and woman on earth, a sin nature has been present in all people. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin is anything I do that disobeys God’s laws and commandments, and any sin that I have committed separates me from God. Sin also has a penalty. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The “wage” or payment for our sin is spiritual death, and eternal separation from God.

2. Know that religion or the good things I do will not get me to heaven.

Religions try to create their own ways to God. Their systems may seem logical, but they cannot bridge the gap created by our sin. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” In other words, our thoughts and ways are not what matter. Doing good things cannot pay the price. Isaiah 64:6 says, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Acts 8:20 says, “…Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.”

3. Know that Jesus is the only way.

Even though we were lost and separated from God, He loved us, and sent His Son to die on the cross and raise from the dead three days later. John 3:16 explains “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, He satisfied the payment for our sin and gained victory over death. He took our place as our substitute so we do not have to pay for our sin ourselves and can have eternal life. By His grace salvation is provided. John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

4. Repent, believe on Christ and receive His free gift of salvation.

We now know that Jesus did everything so that we could have forgiveness of sin and eternal life with Him. Repentance is not cleaning myself up or turning over a new leaf, it is looking at the sin in my life the way God does and confessing to Him that I don’t want that in my life anymore and asking His forgiveness. Believing on is not the same as believing in. James 2:19 says, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” Believing in is similar to knowing about something, but does not require any trust or faith. Believing on is transferring my trust over to something I know is true. Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Roman 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The promise of God is that if we will call upon Him in faith He will save us. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
